Task 1 · Noticing

Read the two answers to the same IELTS Writing Task 2 question: "Some people think that traditional university education is no longer relevant in the modern world. To what extent do you agree?"

Answer A (Band 6.0):
University education changed a lot. Now students learn online and use computers. Many people think university is not important anymore because they can learn from YouTube. But university is still good for many jobs. I think university will change in the future but it will still be important.
Answer B (Band 7.5):
The role of higher education has shifted dramatically over the past two decades. Employers have been questioning the value of traditional degrees for several years now, and by 2035, many current professions will have disappeared entirely. Had students realised this shift ten years ago, they might have chosen different career paths. The future belongs to those who combine academic credentials with practical skills — a balance universities are still struggling to strike.
